Be not unequally yoked with unbelievers.  I really believe it is not to be married to an unbeliever, for what does light have in common with darkness?  You willl not have anything in common. I mean that how we try to live holy lives and the partner is of this world, it is very hard to communicate and walk your walk with the Lord faithfully.   I was married to an unbeliver and he wanted nothing to do with the Lord. He went forward to the alter many many times, but it was never genuine. I am divorcred from him now and he still did not turn to the Lord.  I ran to the Lord hard and I'm still running to him. HE is the one who brought me through this hard time, especially when my husband told me he was tired of taking care of me and to get out. He told me several times to get out or he would throw me out. I had just had surgery to remove a shunt due to my developing hydrocephalus.  My heart fell to the floor when he told me that and from that day it just kept getting worse. He said he loved me but was not in love with me.  WOW talking about it is not easy, so I will end now.  I promised God and myself that I would never get married again to a non believer.  GOD is my husband now and I know He never lies nor will He ever leave me. He doesn't say hurtful things to me. He is my lover and I love HIM.

God Bless You

Kathy, I appreciate you sharing your story and I definately see where you are coming from. It is very hard for us to be "yoked" to unbelievers. It's not that we don't love them, it's just that it creates a situation to where there are two major forces pulling against each other. No matter how much you care for each other on most levels, the spiritual self is fighting the other person. It is not good for either person to be in a position to where they are alienated from their beliefs. You are never going to force them to the Lord, it's something we all have to do on our own. I have been blessed enough to yoke myself to a believer and our relationship is hard enough to manage without a spiritual struggle, I can only imagine what it would be like if we disagreed on such an important issue.

God Bless

I agree, I'm pretty sure if Jesus can sit with the publicans, we can to.

If noone else has any thoughts, I will share mine.

I want to think that what the writer was hitting at in this passage went beyond the face value of this scripture. It appears as though we should not in any way communicate or associate ourselves with unbelievers and/or people living in sin. However, I think what the writer was really saying is that we shouldn't "participate" in their sins and unrighteousness. Talking to, being with, or having friends that live wicked lives does not constitute being "yoked" to those people. Yoked is a heavy word. What I think they are trying to define is that we shouldn't participate. How can the message be spread without communication with the unrighteous?

I thought I would start this one off with a scripture that I have struggled with in the past.

2 Corinthians 6 : 14

14Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

What do you all think? We know that Jesus dined with the publicans, but it appears here that we are being told to keep away from the unrighteous. I would love to hear what you all think.
